actually kinda feeling a double meaning on the 'how high i can get' on the last page, bc this is a p good reminder that lola's been going steady on their painkillers this whole time
grocer of despair 31st Dec 2016, 3:09 PM edit delete reply
it's really hard for me to tell if this is the case - it had seemed to me that after page 50 they were consciously sobering up some, which is why they were more subdued and guiding the conversation back towards sugar, and why they keep giving the bag of painkillers guilty looks (p. 54, 63). On the other hand it certainly seems like they're taking a pill on pages 56 and 57 while trying to keep it from Sugar's attention. Either way, they're hiding something from Sugar, and I'm not sure why they would feel the need to be covert about continuing to take the painkillers, other than them being naturally secretive. That's why I assumed otherwise initially, because if they did want to get their head clearer, they'd probably want to keep it under the radar.
grocer of despair 31st Dec 2016, 3:15 PM edit delete reply
oh, and the lack of pain shown here is another argument for the painkillers, but there are also people who are just preternaturally chill about injuries, and I can see Lola being one of those people.
Guest 31st Dec 2016, 3:30 PM edit delete reply
it seems to be implied that lola has chronic pain of some kind relating to growing up intersex (grey mentioned it a while ago, i think during the car scene where lola asks about how they walk) and as some1 with chronic pain, pain kinda gets normal after a while to the point new sources don't even really add onto it lmao... they also have regenerative properties which probably makes it less worrying in general tho they can still get infections.

ooooh is that the scent of blood wafting into sugars nose on panel 10??

L!!!!!Lola that's Gay!!!!!!

I love these two... There better NOT be a serial killer in there actually Sugar!!!
bluestar 31st Dec 2016, 2:19 PM edit delete reply
i think it's interesting how lola tries to downplay their injury (painkillers plus worrying about bothering sugar?) although sugar's kissing their hand was really sweet

also i love the little details like the blood on the broken glass in panel 4 an the sugar catching the scent of blood in panel 10 it really gives like... depth to the issue

i feel like....the fact that lola's hand bleeding is emphasized means something bad is gonna happen with it..... don't hurt them :(

I want to have some kind of actual decent comment here but I'm mostly just looking at the last two rows of panels forever with a dopey smile on my face

RE Author Notes: How did you know I was thinking about Skooks there? Also why was I thinking about Skooks there?

Lola better clean that cut, unless infection isn't a problem for some reason. >:I

1) skooks owns the concept of swoocing through any window, legally,
2) i'm sure she can, since there is hand sanitizer in the car <:)

this scene is so suspenseful n ominous with the sickly humid atmosphere and panel fucking four just followed by momentary silence and just this whole page likeā€¦...phoooooom there is so much well placed symbolism in this story

LOLA'S >:P FACE FROM INSIDE THE DOOR KILLED ME i love your expressions so much

it's like. this comic has such a dark undertone but it still makes me so happy to see these characters breaking out of their shells because they know there won't be any consequences.
boobie 9th Jan 2017, 1:15 AM edit delete reply
is the "don't cut yourself" / "too late" thing, coming from lola, supposed to double as a casual self-dig about self harm
Nobody 10th Jan 2017, 3:18 AM edit delete reply
Nobody
nope! lola does self-destructive things, but she tends to be passive-- she will put herself in situations where other people harm her on purpose, or neglect herself, etc. rather than cutting.
mata 10th Feb 2017, 2:48 PM edit delete reply
as of the recent page.. I can see why Sugar kissed the back of Lola's hand rather than the wound itself.

Thought - you mentioned snailfur's amazing regenerative properties in an earlier note... In Lola's side comic, when they mention cutting off their broken arm instead of seeing a doctor - is that something that would actually work for her? Like, would a new arm grow back?
